Last weekend, I received a txt message from a dear friend and a strong Man Utd friend, Hector. We were both on campus together and know him too well. I sent him a txt message during their premier league match with Tottenham and he replied. I would like to share what transpired with u, dear readers.
I sent him this. “Referee Webb is a complete thief. What a total robbery at Old Trafford. Away tswa wa (meaning, playing away is difficult).”
He replied with this message, “de referee has done nothing wrong, wait until I lay ma hands on u n u will suffer de bitter pill of ayele (meaning 3 goals without a reply).”
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha … I find this a funny one. Referee Webb will not officiate in our champions league match come Wednesday @ the Old Trafford (now Old Thrashford, courtesy Liverpool). This is a referee who has been accused of being a Man Utd fan by Everton manager, David Moyes before the FA cup semi final match which Man Utd eventually lost to Everton at Wembly. This same man was again made to handle the match between Man Utd and Tottenham and he gave a dubious penalty which Ronaldo scored easily. Everyone has to watch and judge for himself or herself whether it was indeed a penalty. The least said about Mr. Webb, the better.
Most football pundits wrote Arsenal off prior to the commencement of the season but I am sure those people have started revising their notes, now that Arsene Wenger and his little kids (as people always say about our team) are making wonders in all competitions, especially in the ongoing champions league. We started the season without some key players like Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini and Philippe Senderos that we lost to Barcelona and AC Milan, as well as Gilberto Silva to Panathanaikos. Of course, we also lost Tomas Rosicky, Eduardo da Silva, Theo Walcott, etc to injury, but through perseverance, determination, hardwork and the motivation injected into the team by the manager, Arsene Wenger, the team has lived up to expectation. So far so good and I believe there is more to be done to make the team stronger.
Our game against Villareal at the Emirates was indeed a tall order for Arsenal, taking into consideration that we lost our number one goalie, Manuel Almunia, together with 4 other influential players, William Gallas, Johan Djorou, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna to injury but we managed to sail through, courtesy, three goals from Theo Walcott, Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin Van Persie. I however commend the entire team for bringing this success to the supporters and subsequently qualifying us to the semi finals to face current champions Man Utd. I have heard our opponents made so much noise about the impending match at the Old Trafford on Wednesday, but what I will say is that, the pitch will decide. After all, we beat Man Utd 2 goals to 1 this season. If Alex Ferguson and his old men think Arsenal is a cool chop, then they should revise their notes after watching us against Chelsea, Liverpool and Middlesbrough, even with our depleted squad. Thankfully, Almunia, Clichy, Sagna and Djorou are returning and it will be a different ball game altogether. If they think names and age are used to play soccer, then they should ask AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid who have all tasted the bitter pill of youthful exuberance from Arsenal. Names do not play football and I promise them hell. I concede that Man Utd is a very good team but not when it involves Arsenal. I trust Walcott, Adebayor, Nasri, Van Persie, Fabregas, Eduardo and co to enable Arsenal sail through. As a matter of concern, if Alex Ferguson has planned to win this year’s champions league before he retires as a coach, then he must be joking because there is no way the trophy will elude us. I expect an Arsenal – Barcelona in Rome and nothing else. Let us all wait to see how we gun down Man Utd home and away.
Michael Nyarko, Lloyd Scanty, Bismark, Philippo, Nana Kwame Yankson, Patrick Otchere, and all Arsenal fans, I assure you that we will be smiling very soon.
Arsenal, unless gun!! Gunners for ever.
